As we begin to welcome entries into the Brick Awards 2019 competition, the exceptional quality demonstrated by 2018’s shortlist brings a sense of anticipation to our office.
Â
We welcomed a record number of over 330 entries from those operating at the highest echelons of industry, independent practitioners and established practices alike, all with a common commitment to outstanding design and execution.
Â
A shortlist in excess of 100, nods to the renaissance in brick architecture about which we’ve all been talking this past couple of years. We announced 15 winners at the last Brick Awards ceremony, which we consider to be the exemplar.
Â
However, throughout the shortlist there is work of intelligence, beauty and accuracy, which should be celebrated equally in our quest to promote architecture that draws on natural, sustainable, safe contributory materials.
Â
It is to this end that we published the Brick Awards Compendium, the first of its kind produced by the Brick Development Association: it contains every clay brick project shortlisted last year.
Â
And, it is with thanks to the architects, specialist brickwork contractors, developers and manufacturers, who invest the time and energy in participating in this competition that we present to you 2018’s greatest brick architecture.
