Somerford Gate is housing a development of 1-, 2- ,3-, 4- and 5-bedroom homes located in the semi-rural civil parish of Somerford, two miles north west of Congleton town centre.
The scheme of 200 properties includes 35 affordable homes. The mix of house styles comprising detached, semi-detached, townhouses and bungalows – ensures a wide variety of homebuyers are catered for. The site presents Bellway Homes’ ‘Artisan Collection’, which features cottage styling such as nested porches, and front gables with diamond club tiling. Each property has a familiar, informal and homely feel. The inclusion of several elevational enhancements helped to secure planning permission in this sought-after area. These include tile hanging, weather boarding, Tudor boarding and GRP chimneys.
A variety of bricks from Forterra were selected to enhance the character of the scheme, providing a rustic feel that suited the semi-rural location:
- Woodside Mixture: red, wirecut with printed texture
- Lindum Cottage Reserve: red, wirecut with light texture
- Teviot Red: red, wirecut with light texture
- Hampton Rural: red, stock thrown
Forterra’s County Red Smooth, a wirecut, smooth brick, was used as a contrasting brick to complement and enhance features, including: below the DPC for the arched and voussoir window heads to front elevations as a soldier course above and below window heads and cills to rear and side elevations. The choice of clay brick was significant in creating an attractive and successful scheme.
