Bridge House is the first completed building on the Xerox campus redevelopment masterplan that will expand the town centre northwards to encompass the Grand Union Canal and the Colne River, and their associated rich store of historic buildings and industry.
The £18 million, 120,000 square feet regeneration of the eight storey Bridge House, is made up of 115 flats in the original space, with 25 new-builds flats in a rooftop extension. The accommodation is split into studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom flats.
The existing metal and glazed façade of the office was stripped away to the concrete structure and a new brick façade was added, whose design makes reference to the warehouse buildings which once lined the canal, with light coloured, articulated
brick piers rising from a dark base.
The bricks selected for the project were Ibstock’s New Ivanhoe Creams - a light textured multi, chosen for its colour and texture. Architects Brooks Murray specifically chose these creams for their tone and sand-creased texture: both in strong contrast to the smooth, dark of the Ibstock Jericho brick.
Its prominent location as you enter Uxbridge makes it an important statement building, which complements the local industrial vernacular and is now a highly sought-after development.
