About the project
The design and plans for Blossom Street were coordinated by AHMM, who worked with three additional architectural practices (Stanton Williams, Morris & Co and DSDHA) to help create a variety of architectural styles. A specialist landscape architect practice worked closely with the design team to ensure that the public realm was enhanced for the existing and prospective communities.
Blossom Street was formerly a collection of Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian warehouses and commercial premises in a state of disrepair. The project required the facades to be retained, refurbished and extended to create new buildings; providing new offices and retail space.
By creating sensitively designed buildings, bringing many vacant or underused buildings in the area back into useful economic use was at the heart of the scheme which provided commercial space for a range of business sizes, and new retail premises in keeping with the Spitalfields character.
The development has created:
28,000m2 of commercial space,
3,100m2 of retail space
1,400m2 of public realm
On Norton Folgate it was necessary to carefully dismantle the Georgian shopfront and reconstruct incorporating traditional stucco mouldings and tuck pointing to recreate and accurate facsimile of the original building using the original bricks.
