About the project

Located on a heavily wooded site, the form of the building is designed to meander like a river through a forest. While giving a sinuous form to the building, it also helps the building avoid the root protection zones of the surrounding TPO protected trees. the Design utilises and protects a historic woodland – while also providing therapeutic benefit to service users.

Red Kite View is one of the first of a new generation of hospitals in the UK that will be able to operate to net zero carbon by being a fully electric building, achieved as the national grid de-carbonises, utilising of air-source heat pumps and achieved a BREEAM excellent rating.

Lightweight construction is used as much as possible to minimise the embodied carbon while still achieving the necessary levels of robustness. The project Uses locally sourced materials wherever possible. Pre-fabrication and MMC wherever possible to reduce labour and material waste.
