Commercial Building Award

Projects shortlisted in this category are of a commercial use. Offices, retail and leisure schemes, industrial and religious buildings and mixed-use developments were all eligible. Projects substantially use clay brick, which adds to the overall success of the development.

Chester Storyhouse


The project encompasses a renovation of an existing Odeon building within the heart of Chester itself and has been extended to allow it to be utilized for all preforming arts. The new brickwork alongside the old has fundamentally created an iconic building which complements not only the surrounding architecture but also the city of Chester itself.

King William Street


Located in the heart of the City, 1 King William Street is the former home of Rothchilds Bank. The development of this Grade II listed building included the extension and reinvention of two neighbouring buildings into high specification office space, arranged over the top three floors including a private roof terrace.

Marks & Spencer Foodhall


Built on a brownfield site of the former Rutson Hospital in the historic market town of Northallerton, the new 10,000sqft M&S foodstore replaces an existing outlet in the town centre, seeking to extend the existing High Street and in so doing strengthen the town’s retail core.

Thirty Broadwick


replaces an outdated and overly dominant building on the corner of Broadwick Street and Poland Street in the heart of Soho. The development addresses the mixed urban context using high quality materials with a richness, texture and refinement that reinforces the vibrant character of Soho.

Victoria Gate Arcade


This landmark Leeds building was of such scale and complexity that 3D software was used to plot and place every individual brick, there were approx. 360,000 used in total across 550 precast panels, which include bespoke bricks and specials as well as brick slips.
