Projects shortlisted in this category are of public use. Each has been funded by public or lottery money and uses clay brick substantially.

Chester Storyhouse

 

The main public elements of the building are housed in the shell of a redundant but much-loved Odeon cinema which dates from 1936 with the theatre auditorium and backstage accommodation housed in a new extension. Extensive public consultation throughout the process resulted in strong engagement with the people of Chester.

Omagh Hospital & Primary Care Complex

 

Constructed on a brownfield site within the grounds of the existing Tyrone and Fermanagh Hospital on the outskirts of Omagh, the new enhanced local hospital has been designed to provide a range of services, including an integrated Primary Care Centre, a 24-hour Urgent Care and Treatment Centre, cardiac assessment unit, renal unit, inpatient rehabilitation and palliative care services, day case theatres, imaging facilities, comprehensive outpatient services and facilities to support the Trust and their community care services.

Southwark Town Hall & Theatre

 

facilitates a creative student arts hub and community theatre, housed in the former Southwark Town Hall, and regenerates the site as a mixed-use, arts based building. The project includes the new Theatre Peckham and accommodation for Goldsmiths College students. Proposals included the demolition and re-provision of Theatre Peckham, a community theatre housed in an adjoining run-down community hall.

The Green

 

is a new public building, which accommodates the events, exchange and collaboration that constitute contemporary Nunhead’s community life. The project creates a freestanding 307sqm building over-looking Nunhead Green, a historic village green in an inner-city suburb in south London.

West Croydon Bus Station

 

The new West Croydon Bus Station is designed to improve facilities for TfL customers. Collaboration with Croydon council has ensured that the project met the local Masterplan whilst delivering substantial improvement to the operation of the TfL bus network.
