Large House Builder Award

Projects shortlisted in this category are the product of large house builders, who have used clay brick extensively in their respective developments. Each entry comprises two seperate developments, both of which must demonstrate an intelligent use of brick to enhance residents' living environments.

The La Sagesse development (below) is a collection of 48 homes, incorporating both new-build apartments, detached houses and four-storey townhouses, and renovated and new-build lodges. It includes a further 10 apartments housed within the early 19th century Grade II listed Jesmond Tower.

Blackfriars (left) is a residential led, mixed-use scheme for the redevelopment of this significant site within central London. The 1.02 ha site comprises five mixed use buildings ranging between five & 27-storeys and a significant amount of high quality public space. The scheme includes 336 private and affordable apartments, provided on a tenure-blind basis.

Waterside Park Block A (right) is the final phase of the Waterside Park masterplan, a 4.6 ha mixed-use regeneration scheme on a former brownfield site adjacent to the Thames Barrier. The latest addition block directly adjoins the northern edge of Waterside Park, and is situated to the south of Pontoon Dock DLR station flyover. The building provides a mix of affordable and private market homes for a total of 193 one two and three-bedroom apartments on a lower ground floor car park, 400 sqm ca. of office space and a 150sqm crèche.

Kilnwood Vale Phase 1 (left), marks the first phase of a major development of 2,500 homes and associated community facilities on a 90-hectare former landfill site between Faygate Village and Crawley, at the heart of the southeast commuter belt and forming part of the Horsham District Council’s ‘Land West of Crawley Strategic Development Site’. Phase 1 of the development has delivered a total of 230 new dwellings, including 25% ‘affordable’ homes, across a mix of I, 2, 3 and 4-bedroom homes and 2-bedroom apartments.

The Firepool Lock development (right) is an exclusive urban waterside scheme comprised of contemporary 1 and 2-bedroom apartments, 3 and 4-bedroom houses and stunning waterside villas. The £11 million development is part of Project Taunton - a wider regeneration plan that aims to build a new waterfront community in the Historic town.
